April Fool’s Day is traditionally a day to play practical jokes on others, send people on fool’s errands(差事), and fool the unsuspecting. No one knows how this holiday began but it was thought to have originated in France. The closest point in time that can be identified as the beginning of this tradition was in 1582, in France. New Year was celebrated on March 25 and celebrations lasted until April 1st. Setting a roommate’s alarm clock back an hour is common. The news media even gets involved. For instance, a British short film once shown on April Fool’s Day was a fairly detailed documentary about “spaghetti farmers” and how they harvest their crop from the spaghetti trees. Whatever the prank, the trickster usually ends it by yelling to his victim, “April Fool!” April Fool’s Day is a “for-fun-only” observance. Nobody is expected to buy gifts or to take their “significant other” out to eat in a fancy restaurant. Nobody gets off work or school. It’s simply a fun little holiday, but a holiday on which one must remain forever vigilant(警惕的), for he may be the next April Fool! Each country celebrates April Fool’s differently. In France, the April Fool’s is called “April Fish”. The French fool their friends by taping a paper fish to their friends’ backs. In England, tricks can be played only in the morning. One silly question I simply can't stand is "How do you feel". Usually the question is asked of a man in action--a man on the go, walking along the street, or busily working at his desk. So what do you expect him to say? He'll probably say, "Fine, I'm all right." But "you've put a bug in his ear" — maybe now he's not sure. If you are a good friend, you may have seen something in his face, or his walk, that he did not realize that morning. It starts him worrying a little. First thing you know, he looks in a mirror to sec if everything is all right, while you go merrily on your way asking someone else, "How do you feel?"Every question has its time and place. It's perfectly acceptable, for instance, to ask "How do you feel?" if you're visiting a close friend in the hospital. But if the fellow is walking on both legs, hurrying to make a train, or sitting at his desk working, it's no time to ask him that silly question. When George Bernard Shaw, the famous writer of plays was in his eighties, someone asked him "How do you feel", Shaw put him in his place. "When you reach my age", he said, "either you feel all right or you're dead."(4.0 分)6. According to the writer, greetings, such as "How do you feel?" _________ . A. show one's consideration for othersB.are a good way to make friendsC.are proper to ask a man in actionD.generally make one feel uneasy(4.0 分)7. The question "How do you feel?" seems to be correct and suitable when asked of ________ . A. a man working at his deskB. a person having lost a close friendC.. a stranger who looks somewhat worriedD.a friend who is ill(4.0 分)8.  The writer seems to feel that a busy man should _________ . A.be praised for his effortsB. never be asked any questionC.not be botheredD.be discouraged from working so hard(4.0 分)9. George Bernard Shaw's reply in the passage shows his ________ . A. cheerfulnessB.clevernessC.abilityD. politeness(4.0 分)10."You've put a bug in his ear "means that you've _________ . A.made him laughB. shown concern for himC.made fun of himD. given him some kind of warning
