People in some countries cannot use their nativelanguage for Web addresses. Neither can Chinese speakers, who have to rely onpinyin. But last Friday, ICANN, the Web’s governing body, approved the use ofup to 16 languages for the new system. More will follow in the coming years.
The Internet is about to start using the 16 languagesof the world. People will soon be able to use addresses in characters (字符) other than those of the Roman alphabet (字母表).
