三、阅读理解题(单选)(本大题共4小题,每道题10.0分,共40.0分)
Passage 5
It is natural for young people to be critical of their parents at times and to blame them for most of the misunderstandings between them. They have always complained, more or less justly, that their parents are out of touch with modern ways; that they are possessive and dominant that they to not trust their children to deal with crises; that they talk too much about certain problems and that they have no sense of humour, at least in parent-child relationships. I think it is true that parents often underestimate their teenage children and also forget how they themselves felt when young.Young people often irritate their parents with their choices in clothes and hairstyles, in entertainers and music. This is not their motive. They feel cut off from the adult world into which they have not yet been accepted. So they a culture and society of their own. Then, if it turns out that their music or entertainers or vocabulary or clothes or hairstyles irritate their parents, this gives them additional enjoyment. They feel they are superior, at least in a small way, and that they are leaders in style and taste.Sometimes you are resistant, and proud because you do not want your parents to approve of what you do. If they did approve, it looks as if you are betraying your own age group. But in that case, you are assuming that you are the underdog: you can’t win but at least you can keep your honour. This is a passive way of looking at things. It is natural enough after long years of child-hood, when you were completely under your parents’ control. But it ignores the fact that you are now beginning to be responsible for yourself. If you plan to control your life, co-operation can be part of that plan. You can charm others, especially parents, into doing things the ways you want. You can impress others with your sense of responsibility and initiative, so that they will give you the authority to do what you want to do.

3. Teenagers tend to have strange clothes and hairstyles because they ______.
A.have a strong desire to be leaders in style and taste
B.have no other way to enjoy themselves better
C.want to irritate their parents
D.want to show their existence by creating a culture of their own.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. Teenagers do not want their parents to approve of whatever they do because they ________.
A.feel that they are superior in a small way to the adults<br
B.are not likely to win over the adults<br

The importance and focus of the interview in the work of the print and broadcast journalist is reflected in several books that have been written on the topic. Most of these books, as well as several chapters, mainly in, but not limited to, journalism and broadcasting handbooks and reporting texts, stress the “how to” aspects of journalistic interviewing rather than the conceptual aspects of the interview, its context, and impressions. As we know, in journalism as in other fields, much can be learned from the systematic study of professional practice. Such study brings together evidence from which broad generalized principles can be developed.
There is, as has been suggested, a growing body of research literature in journalism and broadcasting, but very little significant attention has been devoted to the study of the interview itself. On the other hand, many general texts as well as numerous research articles on interviewing in fields other than journalism have been written. Many of these books and articles present the theoretical and empirical (经验的) aspects of the interview as well as the training of the interviewers. Unhappily, this plentiful general literature about interviewing pays little attention to the journalistic interview. The fact that the general literature on interviewing does not deal with the journalistic interview seems to be surprising for two reasons. First, it seems likely that most people in modern Western societies are more familiar, at least in a positive manner, with journalistic interviewing than with any other form of interviewing. Most of us are probably somewhat familiar with the clinical interview, such as that conducted by physicians and psychologists. In these situations the professional person or interviewer is interested in getting information necessary for the diagnosis and treatment of the person seeking help. Another familiar situation is the job interview. However, very few of us have actually been interviewed personally by the mass media, particularly by television. And yet, we have a vivid acquaintance with the journalistic interview by virtue of our roles as readers, listeners, and viewers. Even so, true understanding of the journalistic interview, especially television interviews, requires thoughtful analysis and even study, as this book indicates.
1. The main idea of the first paragraph is that _________.
A.concepts and contextual implications are of secondary importance to journalistic interviewing
B.importance should be attached to the systematic study of journalistic interviewing
C.ersonal experiences and general impressions should be excluded from journalistic interviews
D.generalized principles for journalistic interviews are the chief concern for writers on journalism
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Much research has been done on interviews in general ___________.

B.but most of them may not have been interviewed in person
C.and many of them would like to acquire a true understanding of it
D.but most of them wish to stay away from it
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. Who is the interviewee in a clinical interview?
A.The physician.
B.The journalist.
C.The patient.
D.The psychologist.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A.a preface
B.a research report
C.a journalistic interview
D.a news article

Doctors in Britain are warning of an obesity time bomb, when children who are already overweight grow up. So, what should we do? Exercise more? East less? Or both? The government feels it has to take responsibility for this expanding problem.
The cheerful Mr. Pickwick, the hero of the novel by Charles Dickens, is seen in illustrations as someone who is plump – and happy. In the 18th century beauty is equated with rounded bodies and soft curves. But nowadays, being overweight is seen as indicating neither a cheerful character nor beauty but an increased risk of heart disease and stroke.
So what do you do? Diet? Not, according to England’s chief medical officer, Sir Laim Donaldson. He says that physical activity is the key for reducing the risks of obesity, cancer and heart disease. And the Health Secretary John Reid even said that being inactive is as serious a risk factor in heart disease as smoking.
So, having bought some cross trainers, how much exercise should you do? According to Sir Liam Donaldson, at least 30 minutes of modest activity five days a week. Is going to the gym the answer? Luckily for those who find treadmills tedious, the Health Development Agency believes that physical activity that fits into people’s lives may be more effective. They suggest taking the stairs rather than the lift, walking up escalators, playing active games with your children, dancing or gardening. And according to a sports psychologist, Professor Biddle, gyms “are not making the nation fit”, and may even cause harm.
There’s new scientific evidence that too much exercise may actually be bad for you. Scientists at the University of Ulster have found that unaccustomed exercise releases dangerous free radicals that can adversely affect normal function in unfit people. They only people who should push their bodies to that level of exercise on a regular basis are trained athletes.
So, should we forget about gyms and follow some experts’ advice to increase exercise in our daily life? After all, getting off the bus a stop early and walking the rest of the way can’t do any harm! One final thought. How come past generations lacked gym facilities but were leaner and fitter than people today?
1.It can be inferred from the last paragraph that __________.
A.experts’advice cannot be always followed.

past generations longed for gym facilities we have today.
D.too much exercise may actually be bad for health.

About a century ago more people would not have appreciated the study of a foreign language as they do today. Gone are those days when patriotism towards one’s own language was major obstacle to learning foreign languages, a time when most nations were trying to throw the alien rulers out of their countries in their freedom struggles. Gone are those days when people were proud of their mother or father tongues and considered that their native languages alone will suffice the need to survive. Language skills today have become as important as other business and career skills like IT, vocational or professional skills, thus learning a foreign language today has become essential for an individual whether it is for careers, growing a business or even to make an impression.
All that one needs to possess these days is a drive to learn a foreign language and there are all kinds of institutes and courses that tech various foreign languages like French, German, Spanish, and Japanese. Today’s world economy had bridged the barriers of race, sex, color and religion and the word has become a smaller place. Today’s businesses also demand language skills to expand and grow in other countries. Then and hundreds of businesses worldwide are expanding and growing their businesses by promoting them in countries other than their countries of origin. The tremendous growth of the Internet has further increased the demand for language skills. In Canada an official rule also says that all commercial establishments must have their websites created both in English and French, the official languages of the country.
Language can also ease race and border barriers. You are more welcome in an alien nation if you know the language of the people there and can converse in their tongue. People in these countries immediately respect you and think you care about their culture as much as they do because in any culture language is the key identity.
1. People in a foreign country will treat you with more respect if you speak their language because ___________.
A.they think you understand their culture
B.it’s easier for them to communicate with you
C.
they believe you are a good language learner
D.they think you love their country
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. According to the article, the growth of the Internet requires ____.
A.more bilingual websites
B.better command of English
C.more commercial establishments
D.
more foreign language skills
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.One of the reasons for not study a foreign language in the past is _______.
A.it was not allowed
B.it was seen as disloyalty
C.it was taught by foreign rulers
D.it was too difficult
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. According to the article, which of the following is TRUE?
A.Foreign language skills are of vital importance.
B.It's easier nowadays to learn a foreign language.
C.People today are not proud of their native language.
D.People’s language skills are better than in the past
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5. The world has become smaller because of_____.
A.the growth of the Internet
B.a globalized economy
C.

五、翻译题(本大题共1小题,每道题15.0分,共15.0分)
1. Directions: Translate the following passage into Chinese.
No clear-cut distinction can be drawn between professionals and amateurs in science: exceptions can be found to any rule. Nevertheless, the word “amateur” does carry a connotation that the person concerned is not fully integrated into the scientific community and, in particular, may not fully share its values. The growth of specialization in the nineteenth century, with its consequent requirement of a longer, more complex training, implied greater problems for amateur participation in science. The trend was naturally most obvious in those areas of science based especially on a mathematical or laboratory training, and can be illustrated in terms of the development of geology in the United Kingdom.
